How do you get a place with us?

There is no set way of getting a place in one of our houses.  The criteria depends on the individual house, which local council’s area the house is in, your personal circumstances etc.  In most cases you will also need a local connection to the area where the property is based.  Again the criteria differs, but it could mean you already live in the area or have a family, study or work connection to the area.  It sounds complicated, but we’re here to help you through the process.

To apply for a place in one of houses, first, you need to be ‘referred’.  This means a form is completed – a bit like an application form.  At some of our houses, you can apply to us directly and complete the ‘referral’ form yourself – at others, you have to go via another organisation (such as the council) which completes the ‘referral’ form.

We then arrange an interview with you to consider what we can offer.  We always try to inform you of the outcome within 24 hours.  If we are able to offer you somewhere to live, but we have no vacancies in our houses, you will go on a waiting list.  The waiting list is based on priority of need, rather than the date each person applied.  This is the fairest way to make sure those in most need get a place first.
